Taylor Farms Cyclospora Outbreak: A Recall Timeline

Questions continue to surface about the Taylor Farms Cyclospora recall. For information directly from the company, Taylor Farms maintains a Cyclospora Information Hub, which it updates as additional details emerge, while its Recall Page reflects any product recalls that are currently active.

Instead of revisiting the headlines, the timeline published by Taylor Farms provides a clearer picture of how events developed.

How Did the Taylor Farms Recall Develop?

July 15, 2026: Taylor Farms first received traceback and epidemiological information from the FDA and CDC indicating that specific lots of iceberg lettuce originating in central Mexico might be associated with a Cyclospora cluster found across five states. The Cyclospora Information Hub states that Taylor Farms spoke with the FDA, CDC, and Michigan health officials that same day and raised scientific concerns about the methodology and data involved.

July 16, 2026: Discussions about those concerns continued with government representatives, including personnel from HHS, the FDA, and the White House. Taylor Farms also decided that day to initiate a voluntary recall that went beyond the individual lots identified by the FDA.

The company recalled all iceberg lettuce that had been sourced and processed through its facility in central Mexico, describing the broader action as being taken "out of an abundance of caution." Notifications to customers started the same day.

July 17, 2026: The voluntary recall was announced publicly, and Taylor Farms launched its own investigation. This date is widely referenced as the beginning of the Taylor Farms Cyclospora recall.

July 18, 2026: Taylor Farms was notified by the FDA of an initial "confirmed positive" test involving a sample of its central Mexico lettuce. The Hub says the sampled product had already been held while awaiting test results and never entered distribution. Other products belonging to the same lot were already included in the recall.

As an additional precaution, Taylor Farms halted all production at its central Mexico facility that day.

July 19, 2026: Independent third-party specialists were dispatched to the central Mexico operation to conduct a comprehensive assessment of its food safety procedures. Also on July 19, the FDA told Taylor Farms that the positive result reported the previous day was actually a false positive.

What Is the Current Status?

More recent testing information has since been added to the Cyclospora Information Hub. As of August 27, 2026, the FDA reports that there are no confirmed positive Cyclospora results from product testing. Taylor Farms also reports no positive findings from approximately 2,000 samples it has tested in central Mexico since May.

For the rest of the growing season, Taylor Farms has stopped sourcing iceberg lettuce from central Mexico. Its leafy greens are currently being supplied from Canada and the United States.

The company says it spends more than $200 million each year on independently audited and verified food safety protocols. Taylor Farms also states that decisions regarding whether sourcing from central Mexico will resume will depend on the results of the continuing FDA investigation and third-party review.

For consumers trying to determine whether a particular item was included, the recall was limited to iceberg lettuce from the central Mexico facility and primarily affected products distributed through foodservice channels. According to the Hub, retail involvement was restricted to a small number of Marketside-brand products sold through Walmart, which have all been taken off store shelves. Products that did not carry a "Product of Mexico" label were not included in the recall.

Another Recent Recall Is Unrelated

Taylor Farms' Hub also identifies a separate and unrelated recall involving jalapeños provided by third-party supplier Coast Citrus Distributors. This recall has no connection to the Cyclospora situation.

Taylor Farms keeps the latest information about that recall, as well as details on any other recalls that remain active, on its Recall Page.

How to Find the Most Current Updates

Since the situation remains active and may continue to change, Taylor Farms' own resources provide its latest information. The Cyclospora Information Hub contains outbreak-specific statements, FAQs, testing information, and details about food safety commitments, while the Recall Page is updated with active recalls and complete information on affected products, states, and use-by dates.

Taylor Farms advises anyone who believes they have an affected product to throw it away and states that refunds can be obtained from the location where the item was purchased. People who develop symptoms of illness are encouraged to contact their physician.
